We believe everyone deserves access to opportunity in the software industry, and the traditional pipeline is too small.

Our Mission

To create and share profitable business models that allows companies to incorporate software interns into their teams. By on-boarding people from the surrounding community into these entry-level jobs we can create a sustainable ecosystem, sharing prosperity all while developing the software workforce of tomorrow.

THE PATH MODEL

Internships

  • Pay the prevailing minimum wage*

  • 20 to 40 hours/week

  • 3 month duration.

  • Optional employer-of-record services available.

  • Work on real projects in quality assurance roles and full participation on teams encouraged.

Applicants

  • Applicants come from "non-traditional" (not a 4 year Computer Science degree) background.

  • 0 to 2 years maximum of software industry experience.

  • Must meet minimum skill requirements for individual companies.

* All P4TH employers are welcome to set their own payment terms.

An Income Ladder

The positive impact of the P4TH strategy can best be seen as a juxtaposition of today's programming jobs.  In Portland, as a sample metro, a "Junior Programmer" position pays on average $70K per year, plus rich benefits.  While this sounds great, an important caveat is that this "junior" role requires 2 years of experience.  This creates a terrible catch 22 for people looking to get into the industry: to get a job they need experience, and they need experience to get a job.

The P4TH model fills in the gap with a ladder income for the first two years.

Today's Reality

P4TH Model

Tracking Progress

In addition to connecting employers with local governmental programs, PATH works to promote entry-level job creation through 1) sharing working internship models and 2) tracking annually the number of entry-level jobs created by each company.  Special homage is paid to companies that out perform their size in the job creation ratio metric.
